Rowan Urban Teacher Academy
Program Organization
It is recommended that registration be limited to 30 high school sophomores and juniors entering their junior and senior year. The program meets daily from 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. If additional time during the day is needed, information will be sent home in advance to parents/guardians. Students are required to attend every daily session. Absences for compelling circumstances must be approved by the Program Director. Students and their parents/guardians will be invited to attend an orientation program in late-June. A program overview will be provided along with Urban Teacher Academy requirements, materials, and expectations. Letters of invitation will be sent directly to participants.
Expenses Are Covered By the School District
No tuition is charged for the Urban Teacher Academy. School districts will cover expenses for books, materials, lunches, snacks, field trips, and other admissions. This program does not cover daily transportation expenses to and from program’s site.
Transportation Required
Parents/guardians are responsible for arranging transportation for students to and from the program. With written permission students may drive to the program or take public transportation. Specific times and location of drop-off and pick-up will be provided prior to the start of the program.
Instructors
Faculty will include Rowan professors, former Urban Teacher Academy participants (who serve as mentors), local community and educational leaders, and urban teachers.
Awards/Ceremony
Parents/guardians will be invited to attend a recognition ceremony at the end of the program. This program will showcase students’ experiences and achievements.
